Public School Strong Voters Candidate Pledge

All PSS Voters Candidates have taken this pledge and/or been interviewed or vetted by our members to ensure they are values aligned on the content of the pledge:

As a North Carolina candidate for an office which has decision-making power over public school policy, investment, and/or administration, or, as a staunch public school advocate: I support honest, equitable, and fully funded North Carolina public schools.

I pledge to:

Support Leandro: I will work to ensure the North Carolina legislature complies with the 2022 N.C. Supreme Court Leandro decision and fulfills its constitutional obligation to release funding which provides every North Carolina child with a sound, basic education.

Oppose privatization: This includes state legislative proposals to expand private school vouchers, charter school programs, and reduce public schools funding.

Promote funding efforts: I will challenge North Carolina’s ranking as last in the nation for public school funding and strive to make North Carolina a national leader in public education investment.

Advocate for honest and accurate curricula: I will oppose attempts to suppress honest and accurate curricula, history, and literature in public schools, including attempts to ban books and remove displays which represent diversity.

Prioritize equity: I will reinforce an environment where all students thrive, by centering race, ethnicity, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, and language access in our schools. I believe equity can only be attained when we prioritize those whose history and cultural impact have been suppressed or erased.

Collaborate with community (co-governance): I will encourage partnerships to protect and transform public schools by collaborating with parents, students, grandparents, educators and allies.

EnDoRSED Candidates

Public School Strong Voters endorses candidates for public office who: Support the 2022 Leandro Supreme Court ruling, oppose privatization of public schools, support fully funded public schools, advocate for honest and accurate education, prioritize equity, and are committed to community collaboration.
